UPDATE: Nord Stream 2 AG files request for alternative route in Denmark

MOSCOW, Aug 10 (PRIME) -- Nord Stream 2 AG has submitted an application for an alternative route of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline in Denmark while waiting for the Danish government’s decision on the first and main route option, the company said in a statement on Friday.

“Today Nord Stream 2 AG has handed in an application and Environmental Impact Assessment report to the Danish Energy Agency for a route passing through the Danish exclusive economic zone to the north-west of Bornholm. This is an alternative route that does not pass through Danish territorial waters,” it said.

“Nord Stream 2 AG is not withdrawing from the ongoing procedure for the preferred route as applied for in April 2017 which is based on the guidance received from Danish authorities during the successful planning and construction of the existing Nord Stream Pipeline.”

Nord Stream 2 AG representative in Denmark Markela Dedopoulos said that it may take the country’s government eight to twelve months to consider the alternative route and that the route may be 36 kilometer longer that the main 139 kilometer option.

The Nord Stream-2 project envisages construction of two lines of a natural gas pipeline with an annual capacity of up to 55 billion cubic meters, running from the Russian shore to Germany under the Baltic Sea. Russian gas giant Gazprom will implement the project together with Germany’s E.ON and BASF, Royal Dutch Shell, Austria’s OMV, and France’s Engie.
